Mountaineering on the Modena Apennines
To say that the valleys between Giovo and Rondinaio are the most alpine areas of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines is certainly not surprising for those who have seen a few mountains. These slender valleys with slender sides, but also harsh and sometimes cruel, have meant that in this area an adventure terrain has developed for the mountaineer who seeks emotions in the winter.
The particular climate of the area means that these two valleys fill up with snow every winter, often wet due to the proximity of the sea and the latitude, which freezes easily, transforming every slope and ravine into a splendid amusement park for ice axes and crampons.
Every year the possibilities for climbing these slopes are renewed, and the attentive and perceptive eyes of mountaineers periodically discover new ascents, always keeping the interest in these mountains high and alive.

A few years ago my friend Alessandro Ielpi published a nice guide entitled GIOVO-RONDINAIO Proposte Alpinistiche Invernali, this guide included about fifty mountaineering itineraries that can be done in these areas, I recommend you take a look....
