LAKE BACCIO
Among the largest Apennine lakes!
Among the largest Apennine lakes!
Lake Baccio is among the largest Apennine lakes in the Province of Modena, after the famous Lake Santo.
It is located in a basin of high environmental value and known to various history enthusiasts for the numerous archaeological finds discovered in its vicinity. The origin of the body of water is still uncertain, it is presumed glacial.
It has a characteristic oval shape, unique in the entire Northern Apennines, its height is 1554 meters above sea level; of medium size, it reaches 5 meters of depth in the center, but during the autumn floods or the spring thaw the water level can rise even by about a couple of meters.
The Baccio stream comes out of the body of water, which, joining the Terzino ditch, constitutes one of the major tributaries of the Tagliole stream.
Of remarkable beauty, as you can see from the photos, it is one of the pearls to visit and should not be missed on your trip to come and visit us.
A beautiful aerial photo taken by my friend Luca (whom I thank and greet) which highlights, in addition to our splendid ridge, the canals (alas, not very snowy at the end of December 2018) overlooking the basin of Lake Baccio...THANKS LUCA!!
