The discipline of Backcountry in the valleys of Lago Santo and Baccio was introduced, unless otherwise stated, by the undersigned Tex (aka Massimo Bernardi).
Having already climbed these snowy slopes several times with crampons on my feet and seen some descent lines quite suitable for the use of the "board", I decided to try the famous tool (not well liked by everyone, but we are talking about the distant 1998) on the easy slopes of Rondinaio.
Enthusiastic about the climb (with snowshoes, also little known at the time in our Apennines) and especially about the descent, having a good command of the tool under my feet, I decided to make a "leap" in quality and see how it behaved on the slope of the direct Monte Giovo.
Here too it was a great satisfaction..... I advise all "riders" who want to try this thing, to ALWAYS be equipped with the self-rescue kit (the famous trio of shovel, avalanche transceiver and probe), crampons, poles and COMMON SENSE, because here we are not on the track but in pure off-piste, with all the dangers that this entails!!!
