MOUNT RONDINAIO
One of the highest peaks of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines!
One of the highest peaks of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines!
Mount Rondinaio is among the highest in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines (its height is 1964 m) and is the highest in the municipality of Pievepelago after Mount Giovo (1997 meters above sea level).
Similar to Mount Giovo and Alpe Tre Potenze, it is crossed by the Apennine ridge path 00, and marks the border between the province of Modena and the province of Lucca.
It is included in the Apennine Frignano Park, and with a series of considerable overhangs (which become vertical playgrounds in winter) it overlooks Lake Baccio, Lake Turchino and Lake Torbido.
Mount Rondinaio is separated from the Mount Giovo massif by the Passetto, reachable only by paths, and is separated from Alpe Tre Potenze by the Passo del Giovo, also called Foce a Giovo, which with more than 1700 meters above sea level. it is the highest Tuscan-Emilian Apennine pass reachable by a paved road.
From its sublime summit is the panorama: on one side the Garfagnana and the Apuan Alps, on the other the Tagliole Valley and its villages opposite, Ca' di Gallo, Ronchi and Rotari.
Immense gym to learn the discipline of ski mountaineering and winter mountaineering, a wonderful setting where you can spend hours and hours on snowshoes, an open-air postcard for groups of photographers who flock to see this wonderful place.
Aerial photo taken by my friend Luca (whom I thank) and which shows you the amazing setting of our Monte Rondinaio (and surroundings) in the last days of December 2018
